Givenchy Black Piqué Jesus Polo Shirt

24th June 2016

The Givenchy Black Piqué Jesus Polo Shirt is the key print of the Givenchy Spring Summer 2016 menswear, a second bite of the cherry and another hefty continuous collection series of Tisci’s iconic imagery thrown in the direction of fashioning religion with designs on niche leading streetwear monopolised by the house brand.

It’s a polo shirt specifically intended for anyone who admired the Parisian designer’s ambition in creating a contentious figure – Jesus Christ – but who balked at that designer’s almost thousand-dollars price. Or those who, for one reason or another, dithered and dallied for just long enough to miss out on it’s predecessor Givenchy’s Spring Summer 2013 Madonna menswear production run.

Low-volume editions are going to be an increasingly important part of Givenchy’s business model, and if it’s to be a successful part the designer needs to be smart enough to satisfy appetites like the one the Givenchy Madonna left in its wake. And so here it goes: this is street-ready religious propagandize, take two.

On paper, the $850 dollars Givenchy Black Piqué Jesus Polo would appear to represent pretty poor value besides the $300 dollars cheaper and only a few details less potent regular print oversize t-shirts. But in reality nothing could be compared further from the truth. Because the moment when you set your eyes upon this street influence, religion burning, monster Jesus concentric polo, if you have so much as an ounce of addiction towards Parisian designers in your veins you will likely be hooked by it. At which point that initial brief glance will turn into a long-lasting gaze of childlike, slightly bewildered amazement, because beneath it’s be-winged cotton fabric skin is very much the real deal. It’s edges has been trimmed in a delicious combination of barb wire – a true testament feature to the house codes. It’s main print has been thoroughly reiterated to include a full on black and white gradient Jesus portrait, a controversial yet definitive figure in the modern day context. So what then is the new $850 like to wear?

The Givenchy Black Piqué Jesus Polo is quite an expensive piece to pay for and it only has a set of prominent details to show. First impression of the super-aggressive oversize print gives off a truly jaw-dropping presence when anyone first lay eyes on it. It has this amazingly old-fashioned charm that you just don’t get in anything similar nowadays. Number one of which is the achetypal double-stars on the upper chest – a symbolic aspect that represents the house brand, and number two of which is the way it looks, the first time if you set your eyes on this thing, your knees literally goes a little wobbly. It is breathtakingly beautiful to see in person and the complete set of barb wire housing the front, shoulders, and the back, makes any Givenchy enthusiast a complete sucker for details like these.

It’s incomparable to the other Givenchy predecessor league prints because of its eccentric uniqueness. The Givenchy Black Piqué Jesus Polo Shirt is accompanied by so much fantastically strong subjective impressions, that the moment one step out the door will definitely invite much gaze – more than what one could bargain for, it is not for the faint-hearted. The Givenchy Black Piqué Jesus Polo Shirt only comes in one oversize cut which gives the wearer a comfortable fit, while sleeves are tapered to accommodate a closer fitting. It’s a method of what a proper polo shirt should always feel like, not too fitted, not too oversize, it does however sort of dynamic terms feels like it’s something from yesteryears, but they made some lovely designer wear in yesteryears, and yet this one in this year is easily the nicest Givenchy top I’ve worn.

Balmain Black Biker Leather Gilet

21st August 2015

It’s been a while since I’ve last written a review, I have recently went through huge career transition and have finally found a job that I love, besides this I had many things going in my mind that I just needed some time off, a long holiday which I took and regrettable dismissed my beloved blog. While I was away throughout these inactivity times, I took the opportunity to purchase this gorgeous Balmain Biker Leather Gilet that went on sale.

Over recent years, Balmain Homme has been transformed from the very Parisian chic biker cross military accent that Christophe Decarnin once left behind into a revolutionary concurrent opulence collection, often delivered in sharper elegance, looser silhouettes, exaggerated embellishments and outstanding embroidered craftsmanship, all these elements are synonymous to the brand identity today. However, despite all these distinctive and sometimes radical changes, the Balmain biker and military concept has not been long forgotten but continuously innovated through time, so much so that today’s offering consist an abundance of styles once scarce at the marketplace. The unparalleled creations from Balmain incorporates unmistakable elements in each design that makes their clothes unique. Due to such innovation techniques and the increasing market supply and demand for Balmain menswear, I felt that the brand in recent years has lost part of its charm and exclusiveness due to the saturated accessibility, although retail prices generally continued to fluctuate throughout every season. Shop at Balmain menswear at Farfetch now for competitive retail prices globally.

Perhaps one of the most iconic pieces from the modern classic collection is the Balmain Double Symmetrical V-Zipped Biker Jacket, otherwise known just as the Balmain Biker Leather Jacket. First introduced back in Balmain Spring Summer 2012 menswear, it was Olivier Rousteing’s first menswear collection, the quintessential leather jacket soon pervaded across a series an avant-garde series dwelled from quilted jerseys, mixed materials, and most recent bi or tricolour ways, also seen available at the H&M Balmain collection. While its design sets the benchmark in futuristic outwear back in SS12, the designer additionally introduced two biker leather gilets, sleeveless jackets which were practical for the spring summer season. The first was a black asymmetrical zipped leather gilet, while the other was made with a special python leather in gorgeous greyish blue. They were absolutely breath-taking pieces that I’ve adored for many seasons to come and have always dreamt about owning one ever since its inception.

This is the Balmain Black Biker Leather Gilet from the Spring Summer 2015 collection, and believe it or not this is the entry level of the range. Of course entry level is a relative term and while the Balmain Black Biker Leather Gilet might be less expensive and less complete in the range it’s by no means cheap and it’s not short of the muscle either. Balmain reintroduced the men’s leather gilet nearly after four seasons, this time the design and elements were based on the iconic Balmain Double Symmetrical V-Zipped Biker Jacket and it continues that tradition of the double v-front split zippers, ribbed trims, large buttoned eyelets and a wide shoulder stance, modernized with a fastening belt on the waistline. The double zipper’s complex choreography is manually interchangeable by folding two sides to another, transforming it to a complete harnessed vest, while still leaving some space for body movement. It converts the Balmain leather gilet from a sleek sleeveless jacket to a glamorous rocker vest at just a few zips away. I have soon developed a strong desirability to own this Balmain leather gilet.

Balenciaga Black Marble High-Top Sneakers

22nd May 2015

When former creative director Nicholas Ghesquière left his post in late 2012, New York based designer Alexander Wang embarked to take on the high position at Balenciaga. With challenging projects faced with high expectations set for Taiwanese-American born Wang who will continue to develop his own eponymous brand while handling all forms of ready-to-wear and accessories division of Balenciaga, as well as upholding the French label’s image through the use of his own creativity and research to reinterpret the modern yet distinctive, and extremely innovative style established by the great founder Cristóbal Balenciaga.

Wang’s first notable collection was faux marble as seen in women’s Balenciaga Fall Winter 2013. It was primarily an interpretation from the late couture master with an added sense of monolithic architectural legacy. The collection’s motif was a heaven sent and soon became an acclamation to the house. The first marble motif were spilled in cracked patterns incarnated into a full-fledged ready-to-wear adding accessories to match, however the prints were less refined compared to the concurrent editions found in many of the latest classic accessories. Wang’s creation initiated the definitive marble print movement that was powerful enough to inspire dozens of designers ever since late 2013 till today.

In the latest Balenciaga incarnation, the marble motif has been reproduced to a far more natural interpretation and appears to make its way to one of Balenciaga’s iconic classic sneakers – The Balenciaga Black Marble Print High-Top Leather Sneakers, embraced by countless luxury fashion fanatics and sneaker fans alike, this innovative pair is truly unique in its kind. Simplicity in a subtle approach in every respect is key and class leading materials were integrated well into its initial design, the sneakers’ end result stands out in every way without appearing overwhelming.

Colour wise there are a choice of contrast coded white, black, and grey or an inverse black in two high-tops and one low-top. The most reasonable priced in the range is the Balenciaga Suede-Trimmed Marbled Leather & Rubber Low-Top Sneakers currently available at MR PORTER which sold out multiple times this season, but I think it’s worth paying a bit extra for the high-top variant which can be more visually engaging. The Balenciaga Black Marble Print High-Top Leather Sneakers dwell from a harmonious design and gets even more attractive, it just has the right mix of muscular proportions, clean chiselled lines that shapes its distinctive contour and an aggressive detailing. The fact that it looks pretty standard is cool as well, though to the trained eye it’s something pretty special.

Givenchy Baby’s Breath Gypsophila Print Sweatshirt

31st March 2015

Givenchy Floral Gypsophila Sweatshirt

Givenchy spring summer menswear collections are periodically released in the early month of April to end of May. But for the very first time, the current Givenchy Spring Summer 2015 menswear made an earlier debut in-stores since February 2015, after months of editorial teasing since its first initiation – the Floral Gypsophila collection or rather it be called “Baby’s Breath”, was revealed at the Menswear Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 on 31st June 2014.

Riccardo Tisci’s brainchild line-up began with a few SS15 essentials pieces in black and white band panelled sports influence, these were the more discern minimalist wear in high contrast monochromatic designs that were less exclusive in the collection, but equally desirable and repetitive to wear. The range ultimately proliferated towards the mass distinct gypsophila clustered series, whereby its main detailing not only lies within the pioneering dozen hundreds of flowery print work, but additional strategically placed band panelled detailing were frequently dressed in contrast prints throughout the silhouette.

The collection then advanced towards the predominant gypsophila, a new developed prominence motif that was described in the press release as “poisonous romantic flowers” which is to say, tiny petal pools of precisely spaced across various sections in symmetrical floral print. Later on, these were recurred in Swarovski embellishments in limited editions primarily offered in a polo and shirt series. For this season, I have decided to settle with the new Givenchy Black Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt, it is one of the very first profound variants of its kind that was earlier released in the month. A breathtaking decorated pure lightweight cotton sweatshirt featuring class-leading design dynamics.

The Givenchy Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt marks the third floral menswear reinstatement, modelled over the predecessor Givenchy Birds of Paradise Spring Summer 2012 menswear and Givenchy Favelas Pre-Spring 2014 menswear collection, both which embraced feminism over alluded masculinity. However, when compared to its inverse colour cousin – the Givenchy White Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt, some of the more avid details are compromised such as the contrast band panelled details on the front shoulders, which applies across the categorical range.READ: Givenchy Baby’s Breath Gypsophila Pearl Embellished Polo Shirt Spring Summer 2015.

Givenchy White Zip Embellished Basketball Shirt

23rd February 2015

It has been a year since Riccardo Tisci unveiled the Givenchy Fall Winter 2014 menswear, a constructive collection inspired from his childhood love for basketball. An amalgamation series of both art and sports were translated into clothes for men, as distinct elements captured from the basketball game merged with the epochal 20th century design lines of Bauhaus movement.

The zip embellished wear offered by Givenchy has been infinitely reinvented since it was introduced by Tisci, this particular key feature has been categorized by the house as their metal craftsmanship trademark and has been incorporated not only limited to the footwear and accessories, but has eventually evolve into new codes in ready-to-wear collection. See the latest Givenchy Spring Summer 2015 Footwear and Accessories Collection

In every Givenchy show season, Tisci is known to introduce specific key pieces and one of them from the Givenchy Fall Winter 2014 menswear ‘shirt’ category is the Givenchy White Zip Embellished Basketball Shirt. Possessed with the primary basketball motif of the season, the shirt takes on a unique disposition formed by the distinguished silver basketball groove lines looping around its shape in traditional cotton wear. Its desirable characteristics sets the benchmark of class leading shirt making for the season.

The detailed centric Givenchy White Zip Embellished Basketball Shirt amounts an astounding weight, mainly due to its largely rendered metal craftsmanship zip trims that is embedded into the heavy woven cotton material which houses the complete construction. As the designer continues to innovate and create in its ongoing experimentation use of hefty metal craftsmanship materials reanimated across a wide range of men’s ready-to-wear, including a similar shirt version in less exuberant details, lapel trimmed blazer, mixed material printed sweater, nylon-leather jacket and waist-trimmed trousers to match – a perpetual journey that seeks excitement to its cult of fashion enthusiast. I have even made an additional purchase on the second generation Givenchy White Zip Trimmed Cotton Shirt from the current Pre-Spring 2015 season that has just gone through an extensive mid-life update, this fast selling-light weight essential style piece represents the old mantra “less is more”. Opt for the lower spec zip trims as it offers interchangeable flexibility from weekdays work wear to evening dressing at a far more realistic price.
