    Me no like loooool.
    It is almost the same.
Didn't they notice that the men's line is not doing that well recently.
Only their bikers are sold out everywhere and even online retailers did not stock Balmain pieces as they used before.

    • Despite this, I think they are doing well. As all they need is to sell the most expensive pieces to counter back on the lost profit, such as those leather jackets and embroidered jackets that is price well over $5,000. The jeans are selling very fast too, I just bought one that is now sold out everywhere, will show it to you all next week or the following :)

I really like the khaki denim's color tone – do you have any indication how the sizing will run this season? Generally I wear a 33 in Dior/Saint Laurent; don't have any Balmain to compare. Thank you for your coverage!!

    • They run big in size when compared to the two mentioned brands. The common case is that you will either need to take 1-2 sizes smaller. Then again, I do not have the FW14 size chart with me now so I can't comment in detail.

However, you can try looking at the SS14 size guide here > http://drblogspot.blogspot.com/2014/03/balmain-biker-jeans-and-trousers-size.html

Thanks Maurice, always helpful! I think I might actually end up with the straight cut khaki denim in a 32 now that it's also available for preorder…
      http://www.balmain.com/en/shop/d-jean-biker-en-coton-nervure-balmain/

One more question for you, how do the lounge pants fit? The waist measurement seems very small in the SSENSE measurement guide (for the red ones you have in the sidebar) – looks like 36cm for a size M. Even the XL is only listed at 40cm waist. I know they stretch a lot, but how much is the question! My waist size is normally about 44cm. Again, usually wear 33 size if that helps at all…

    • You need size L or XL. It will stretch just like the ones in H&M :)

I'd have to see more from this collection. As of now, the only thing I'm interested in is the Pea Coat. Although, I prefer the Black Cashmere Pea Coat from a few years ago.

    http://www.lyst.com/clothing/balmain-cashmere-cloth-pea-coat-black-2/

I'm also considering purchasing this Blue Officer Cotton jacket in a few days. Found a good deal/price ($1,500.00), and I'm not sure I can pass it up.
    http://www.balmain.com/en/shop/d-veste-courte-six-boutons-balmain/

    • That Black Cashmere Embroidered Applique Pea Coat is gorgeous! It is from FW12 and I remembered trying it in store. The price is around $6000+ :( It is a beautiful jacket, if you have the chance to buy one you should!

Not liking the officer jacket though, skip it.

"Not liking the officer jacket though, skip it."

I'll take your advice :-), I wasn't that excited about it to begin with. Guess I'll just take that cash and figure out my pre orders for FW14. Thanks!

balmain is declining because there is not news
I acquired the last piece that really paid off was a white t-shirt with a dragon on the shoulders -> it is a fantastic piece and creative too much
there is not anything else that really pay off
There are other far more creative brands as DRIES VAN NOTE
I understand your devotion to the brand, but I do not understand the persistence
There are other much better marks than Balmain menswear

    • I'm not familiar with DVN therefore I can't comment, but the current season is pretty nice. The thing about Balmain is that it may not be the best for this season when compared to other leading designer, but Balmain menswear has a very distinctive signature style unique to its own, even after a few seasons there is a strong presence of identity which makes it successful. Much like Dior Homme :) and now Saint Laurent.

Balmain have certainly declined here in France, slowly after ss12.
In the Paris store, staff have witnnesed the lost of loyal french Customers, mostly asians, americans and an increase in Kim kardashian fans.
Being one of those French Balmain fans since decarnim, I don't like what Olivier make any more, made in turkey
Leather, Balmain logo tees and the list goes on….,
now the only pieces i buy is the all time biker jeans when I need one and that is all

    • I understand your frustration. Olivier may have made many mistakes, but I felt he is trying to tie in a signature of his own, believe it or not as much people hate it there are also people that loves it. Sadly in reality, the truth is said that you are right, I too know many followers has left and venture into other brands like Saint Laurent. Please let me know what brands you are interested in as well.

But at the end of the day, I could still foresee that this is a thriving brand and perhaps one day Olivier will give back what we always wanted. For now i'm just like you, only spending on the 'safest' collections.

Looking at FW14, I lost hope in Olivier maybe the next DA Balmain will hire will do a better job, at least I hope so…

This season, I went back to Dior Homme where I picked 2 denims and burberry biker leather, though I did pick a light blue balmain biker jean but sold it quickly.

    • Im interested to see the light blue biker, can you show it to me?

  • Anonymous

    thanks for the news Maurice…
I like the camoufalge Hoodies but i don't like that much his price :)

    • There is always room for alternatives, Moncler makes some pretty ones…

      yeap thanks Maurice,
Moncler makes some pretty sweat pants too…

amazing how this detail on the zipper is horrible
    this detail kills the pants/jeans
has the appearance of cheap clothing that is in the stalls of street fairs

    • They are using Lanfranchi Lampo and YKK premium zippers, you must see these pieces in store to find appreciation in them. :)

Have you seen, there is also some items to preorder at barneys, with some bikers http://www.barneys.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BNY-Site/default/Search-Show?cgid=men&prefn1=designer&prefv1=Balmain apparently the kaki biker on balmain.com is 90% coton 10%polyester like the bikers from ss12

    • Wow, Barneys is quick, wonder what happened to the luxury world, the transformation from one season to next is just weeks away. And I thought they just started taking batches of SS14.

      Did you say 90%?!!!!! :OOOO

    • Anonymous

      THIS IS GETTING BORING LOL
HOW QUICK WE DID NOT WEAR WHAT WE PURCHASED FOR SPRING SUMMER YET
      AND WE CAN'T GET ENOUGH
      WHY???
      STOP THEM LOOOOL

    • Arrest the marketing people! They take too much of our hard earn money.

These days, theres too much choices. Often have to be careful where you would like to spend. What ado you have in mind this season?

    • Anonymous

yes 90%coton 10%polyester that's what it's wrote… I thought they were mistaken on the Balmain website. On luisaviaroma there is a khaki biker too and it's wrote 98% coton 2% PU ( http://www.luisaviaroma.com/index.aspx?#ItemSrv.ashx|SeasonId=60I&CollectionId=M09&ItemId=19&VendorColorId=MTQ30&SeasonMemoCode=actual&GenderMemoCode=men&Language=&CountryId=&SubLineMemoCode=&CategoryId=0&ItemResponse=&MenuResponse=&SizeChart=false&ItemTag=true&NoContext=false ) it's also cheaper than the one I bought on the Balmain website and usually they have approximately the same price ( http://www.balmain.com/boutique/d-jean-biker-stretch-nervure-balmain/ ) so maybe they didn't mistaken and it's a different one?. I bought it yesterday online because I had a 900$ voucher on the Balmain website (I bought a leather biker and it had a defect I sent it back 3 times and finally they gave me a voucher, they didnt want to refund me LOL).

    • im not too sure too lol, the colours are different from what i'm looking at. They could be different, as i'm only familiar with the LVR version with the 98% cotton and 2% polyester.

how much will the fur trim jackets be?

    • Easily over $5000, if you can find the racoon fur bomber jackets, it will be worth it!

  • Anonymous

Hi Maurice great blog. Do you know how much the Balmain fur trim jackets will be?

    • I've replied your question as above :)

What they need to do is bring back Decarnin regardless he's a whack job or not. I bet all the fans will return. Rousteing's stuff are very tricky and just way too many big patches and emblems. The only thing I liked about his stuff are the zipper biker jackets (esp. the one worn by Timberlake). All the sweats with big emblems and weird pants proportions has got to go. And what's up with made in Turkey stuff? A thousand dollar jeans made in a cheap labor country? No thanks. Besides the classic biker pants, all his other pants just look so weird and odd. I feel like Balmain men today is like Decarnin with a huge dose of Liberace. It's all going in the wrong direction. They need to bring the rugged Marlboro men sex appeal back into the clothes. In early 90s, Gianni Versace's clothes had a huge dose of Liberace but somehow he made it look hyper masculine and it worked. I feel Rousteing lacks that kind of sophistication and his clothes just looks off most of the time with both prints and most importantly proportion.

    • I liked to agree with you and hate to argue about this. But after all, the current collection has expanded larger than it used to be. Rousteing has invested good time specializing in both the mens and womenswear.

There may be a lot of experimental pieces, like the ones with huge embellishments and pants that looks way off, but I guess it's just part of his passion to create such clothes. I too agree they look tacky, especially when it's huge but lacks in detailing and the purpose of such a design. But aside from this, there are many quality classic pieces from the Decarnin era, just made much better. Take a good look at this season's safari military theme, the colours here are perfectly Balmain. I find it difficult to see why the market is not accepting it, the khaki colours blends well with the animal thematic.

Aside from the above, like what you have mentioned, the zip-detail biker jackets are outstanding and not to forget the Balmain high-top sneakers introduced into the mens collection since his inception. These are prefect wardrobe statement staple pieces.

I guess there its a give and take game. Just like Givenchy and other brands that makes mistakes too.
