Givenchy Baby’s Breath Gypsophila Print Sweatshirt

31st March 2015

Givenchy Floral Gypsophila Sweatshirt

Givenchy spring summer menswear collections are periodically released in the early month of April to end of May. But for the very first time, the current Givenchy Spring Summer 2015 menswear made an earlier debut in-stores since February 2015, after months of editorial teasing since its first initiation – the Floral Gypsophila collection or rather it be called “Baby’s Breath”, was revealed at the Menswear Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 on 31st June 2014.

FROM RUNWAY TO RACK

Riccardo Tisci’s brainchild line-up began with a few SS15 essentials pieces in black and white band panelled sports influence, these were the more discern minimalist wear in high contrast monochromatic designs that were less exclusive in the collection, but equally desirable and repetitive to wear. The range ultimately proliferated towards the mass distinct gypsophila clustered series, whereby its main detailing not only lies within the pioneering dozen hundreds of flowery print work, but additional strategically placed band panelled detailing were frequently dressed in contrast prints throughout the silhouette.

The collection then advanced towards the predominant gypsophila, a new developed prominence motif that was described in the press release as “poisonous romantic flowers” which is to say, tiny petal pools of precisely spaced across various sections in symmetrical floral print. Later on, these were recurred in Swarovski embellishments in limited editions primarily offered in a polo and shirt series. For this season, I have decided to settle with the new Givenchy Black Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt, it is one of the very first profound variants of its kind that was earlier released in the month. A breathtaking decorated pure lightweight cotton sweatshirt featuring class-leading design dynamics.

The Givenchy Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt marks the third floral menswear reinstatement, modelled over the predecessor Givenchy Birds of Paradise Spring Summer 2012 menswear and Givenchy Favelas Pre-Spring 2014 menswear collection, both which embraced feminism over alluded masculinity. However, when compared to its inverse colour cousin – the Givenchy White Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt, some of the more avid details are compromised such as the contrast band panelled details on the front shoulders, which applies across the categorical range.READ: Givenchy Baby’s Breath Gypsophila Pearl Embellished Polo Shirt Spring Summer 2015.

FEAST FOR THE EYES

The Givenchy gypsophila has been designed around the wearer with a clear focus in engagement and visibility, both attributes were perceive as an idealization from a singular precedent and its historical reality defines its probable success. There is an abundance of elements to admire, the floral print that runs across the sleeve’s wrist is a wonderful feature that highlights its constructive composition, its high contrast petals sets against the pitch black canvas is a feast for the eyes. The rear shoulder is nonetheless impressive, with its twin shaped abstract forming a bridge like closure yields the fundamental of art making. Taking a closer look, its dizzying number of floral detailing is quite intriguing and intuitively presented, the petals you see are not photographically represented, nor is the dye technique chemically bond within the fabric like the mass gypsophila clustered series. Dye is optimised over the print, layers of gloss waxed finish similarly comparable to the earlier Givenchy Rottweiler Sweatshirt from Fall Winter 2011. The finishing touches has a textured effect, bringing out the layered painterly details like a centennial old oil painted artwork that contributes to its unique charisma.

SUBTLY OVERSIZED

Fit wise, the Columbian-Fit styling cues were probably inspired from the 1980s with its massively large to size silhouette, including the increase in arm and overall length. The fit is quite controversial, and is subjective to the wearer’s comfort. Even with the two sizes smaller XS variant that I am wearing fits relatively huge on chest width, almost 2 inches wider across as compared to a previous Givenchy Multi-Print Panelled Cuban-Fit Sweatshirt Pre-Spring 2014 in size M, which was designed to be not so fitted. I would recommend to take 3 sizes smaller than the standard fit if you have a choice to choose from, unless you wouldn’t mind drowning in one.SHOP: Givenchy Floral Print Sweatshirt at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Despite the humongous size, the Columbian-Fit sweatshirt creates room for general acceptance. We have been spoiled with slim-fitted tops since the late 2010s, if you ask me, would it be better to stay safe to a Cuban-Fit or slim-fitted true to size sweatshirt? Well, I guess I need to spend much more time with it to work out a conclusion. Besides I’m not sure whether that matters anymore, because the Givenchy Black Baby’s Breath Floral Gypsophila Print Columbian-Fit Sweatshirt is much more desirable than any of its current and competitive kind, it’s bustled with an aggressive character yet it is filled with emotion and doesn’t try to subdue its successor. And that makes it all the more appealing to own one.

then this sweater matches very well with you chains sandals Maurice…
sick you don't have the polo my friend :) , with this chain sandal…

    • I tried the polo shirt much earlier before buying this sweatshirt. the one with the most prints. It's columbian fit too, but it just seems massively structured as compared to the t-shirt. The back is really long as well, I dont think it looks good on me therefore i've forgo the opportunity getting one.

But my baby's breath t-shirt is coming next week :)

on mr porter you can buy the polo in all size…( and yes the back of the polo is long)
i think the polo in xs can fit you very well…
do you like the transparent givenchy sweater? maybe it could be nice with your shirts…
all this collection matche very well with your chain sandals

just missing the cold for so many winter clothes…

    • It's not meant for winter, although it looks quite bulky due to the oversize fit. It's made out of lightweight cotton.

    Hi!
    What size did you get?

    • XS, couldnt get an XXS when I bought it :(

  • Anonymous

    love everything about this!!

    • Thank you, are you getting anything this season?

  • Anonymous

Those chain sandals will never age, it’s amazing how much even the small details makes a huge difference..

Anyways loving your blog . <3

    • Yes it pairs very well with Givenchy outfits, the chain sets a nice contrast against the dark leather. I get a lot of stares on them, but i'm sadden by the fact they were reproduced this season… It was meant to be a one off production :(

I can only get one of these pieces. What would you choose ? The Sweater or the T-Shirt ?

    • Where do you live at the moment and what do you wear most often, sweatshirt or t-shirt?

    • Anonymous

I think I will choose the Sweatshirt, as I already got me the Minotaurus x Statue T-Shirt from the Pre-Spring Collection. I live in Germany so the Summer´s aren´t getting this hot 😀 But do you think the Cotton is lightweight enough to wear it on a Summer Day ?

      Ps: Awesome Blog :)

    • I think you should go for the sweatshirt as well, as you will have more cooler weather than warm. The sweatshirt looks bulk and is perceived to be quite thick. But it's not, it is meant to be worn during spring, and occasionally in summer. I wear it to work during every Friday, and the weather here is hot and humid around 31-34c all year round. Of course I only wear it indoors where there is air conditioning… honestly I was sweating like hell in this photoshoot. 😛

Thank you :) I´m 5´ 8´´ tall, do you think I can get me the Sweatshirt in S ? Unfortunateley it´s the only size available anymore at LVR :/

    • I have no idea… I can't judge your size from your height. Its 2-3 sizes bigger than usual, so if you are an L-XL, a size S would fit you. :)

    • Anonymous

I´m a size S 😀 Normally i get XXS, when it´s Columbian Fit, but XS is also possible, so is there a big difference between XS and S ?

    • The difference is not much, around 2cm at each side, but then you add them together at all 4 sides its going to be 6-8cm bigger in chest diameter, now this makes a big difference. Even the feeling of wearing it… Generally I would not even touch a size S columbian, unless I am a size L-XL true to size.

Hey maurice! It's Rafa from Japan. You look great! Yes, a lil bit oversized…but I believe that not every piece of clothing you own should be fitted.
Now that i see you wearin' the sweatshit with the paladio sandals (that i also own and adore) makes me think about gettin' the polo-or the tshirt! haha…
but I already got me the gypsophila "skaters" in black… which i will have next week too! my sixth Givenchy pair! so excited :)))

    • Hey Rafa, good to hear from you as always :)

Congratulations on your gypsophila skate sneakers purchase, I am sure they will look amazing on you. Yes, definitely you should consider the gypsophila t-shirt or polo shirt. But I feel the polo shirt is really big, even when the size is XXS. Therefore I went ahead and bought the t-shirt, it will be delivered within this week.

  • A great post, for a great sweater! Congrats Maurice, especially for your pictures, could I ask you which camera do you use for these shots?

    • Thank you Federico. These photos were taken with my old 2009 Canon 5D MKII :)

    • wow, that's one hell of a camera 😉
As now I take my pics with an old Nikon D5000… I hope to have the money to upgrade at the end of the year.

    • Try investing in the lens first, as the lens will always hold its value but not the camera body.

Do you know the white version of this with black flowers? I am thinking of getting that but you recommended 3 sizes down, I wear Cuban S! I'm afraid it'd be too big for me even then, is the white version one the same sizing as this one? Or true to size?

    • Yes it is, except the white one has an additional band panelled detailing on the shoulders. It fits the same as the black, as oversize. You can find one in XS in MR PORTER.

      http://bit.ly/1OXxwxu

    • Anonymous

Damn! I was looking at the same one on Mr Porter, I think it might be too big for me.. You said XS was still slightly big for you then it might be too big for me then for the XS.. I can't find any of the floral SS15 Collection Pieces anymore for my size :( Columbian XXS/Cuban S..

    • XXS is hard to catch, I want to buy this size too but it was all sold out after a few days of listing. :(

    • Anonymous

Oh man :( There are no "signature" or "main" pieces for SS15 anymore that are my size.. Only got a shirt from SS15 :( Should have bought baby's breath pieces earlier..

Oh well.. FW15 looks very good, one of the best collections I've seen to date!

Hi my name is Jacqueline and I just wanted to drop you a quick note here instead of calling you. I discovered your Givenchy Baby’s Breath Gypsophila Print Sweatshirt – Second Kulture page and noticed you could have a lot more visitors.

  • wahwah

Hi with the baby breath floral sweater I purchased the medium from a seller from online and it’s such a snug fit! Only reason why I purchased it was bcoz it was sold out all over online; I have quite a few items from givenchy too but this one seems odd….. my tag says made in China? And M seems quite tight and I’m not sure big person.

Do you think mine is fake ?

  • was

Hi does it come in cuban fit too? Because I purchased one online and it seems to be cuban fit but now I’m scared it’s fake

  • wah

    Hi

Does the givenchy baby breath sweater come on cuban fit also ? I purchased one online and think it’d fake bow because I never seen it in such a tight fit.

    • Hi there, the Givenchy Gypsophilia Sweater only comes in Columbian Fit. A size M will fit like 3XL, even the size XS fits like an XL-2XL. Therefore most likely you have bought a replica. I am actually selling mine at the moment at $850 shipped, only wore it 3 times as it isn’t practical for the weather here. Let me know if you would like them.

      • wah

        Hi there

Really ?? $850 usd? Sorry for my spam haha it didn’t seem to send earlier?

        • Hi Wah, yes 850 ship to anywhere in the world including all handling fees. I take good care of collection so most of them are new. You can take your time to consider. If there is anything you would like to ask just reply as below.
