Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 Menswear at Barneys New York

12th November 2014

This upcoming season, designer Riccardo Tisci revisits his chef-d’œuvre – taking a quick glance over the unexpected pre-order release, there was a lot about these outfits that harkened back to pieces that Tisci created at the first Givenchy Pre-Spring menswear launch in 2013. Many thanks to Barneys New York’s official release of the latest Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 menswear collection for pre-order, we finally get a good glimpse and presumption concept from the classified collection that was supposedly preview earlier this season.

Street style elegance still lives up to its edge in Givenchy’s game for fame and not to forget its prosperous sales revenue strategy. This collection sets little contrast from earlier anticipated pre-collections, taking a few contemporary motifs tweaks along with Givenchy Fall Winter 2014 womenswear classic feminine prints into account. Repeated prints collage in a random mélanges of combinations filled the attention-grabbing pieces is jetset as the “new” necessity, catered for consumers who missed out on the “old” and also accounting for Givenchy fanatics, if it appeals again. See a little more variety at Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 Collection Sneak Peek.

Some killer reiterate designs includes the notorious iconic Givenchy Pre-Fall 2014 Rottweiler, this Pre-Spring 2015 translates a shirt copy and sweatshirt with distinct contrast wrist stripes is bound to an instant sell-out success. New season is about fresh and eye-catching patterns, including the forms of a butterfly-inspired motif taken from the current Givenchy Fall Winter 2014 womenswear creation, featuring a Columbian-Fit mixed orchid print tee and shirt tied-up with charismatic zoomed in papillon wings are put to the consumers likeability test. Surprisingly these designs closely resembles Marcelo Burlon Country of Milan trademark, which isn’t something you would really want to sought after for a premium priced top. Not to mention a similar design approached like the Givenchy 17 Patch Stripe Varsity Jacket seems evidently inspired from Slimane’s pioneered Saint Laurent’s Classic Teddy Varisty Jacket. Crafted from a short facelift on a familiar pattern, sees the resurrection of the Paisley & Fighter series from the past, butterflies are now the current key replacement of the “old” fighter jets encompass into a “new” warm colorway accent.

My favorites from Barney’s New York Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 pre-order collection are statement designwear, including the Givenchy Butterfly & Paisley Print Parka which looks super awesome, Givenchy Paisley Striped Plaid Patchwork-Print Shirt gives a unique approach, Givenchy Paisley & Stripes Patchwork-Print Sweatshorts innovated from early Pre-Fall 2014 and Givenchy Tri-Color Graphic Sweatpants appeals with its distinct red V panelling are all modern day bustle pieces that I am eyeing for. A Givenchy Paisley Print Reversible Bomber Jacket would add a nice touch, highly suitable for the colder Spring season too, but it is expensive and yet these designs no longer felt relevant or equally desirable as it was once upon a time.

Overall, there are great examples that are mixed with powerful tailoring techniques which defines Givenchy’s trademark recognition. All in all, it’s a powerful street sophistication series repeated in a clever twist, despite this, it lacks plenty of excitement – I miss the right dose of fantasy, modernity and loads of luxury where Tisci once offered in a novelty collection are now ghost of the past as Givenchy fanatics are spoiled for choice when it comes to urban wear.

    Thanks for the update Maurice.
Im not loving the pieces im seeing, but I can see myself buying some pieces like the rottweiler shirt.
Do you know when the pre order for pieces from the Pre-Spring 2015 you posted earlier will start?
Are you gonna get something from this collection?

    • Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 will be delivered by 31 January 2015 and Givenchy Spring Summer 2015 will be delivered by 1 March 2014. Some collection will spill over the stated dates.

Hmm… maybe, and maybe not. I'm looking to emphasis more in Saint Laurent next season. :/

Thank you for your update Maurice,
heck they're making Rottweiler variants again next season since it was the best selling print last time.
and why do those new prints look like Indonesian batik :S
From what i've seen so far the only pieces that captured my attention are the trio bambi/shark/madonna combo and Amerika t-shirt.
Too bad they don't make the trio for men, but maybe the men's version is coming in another next season ?

    • They are batik inspired, some designers like Etro and Emilio Pucci actually take inspiration from South East Asia culture. So it is no surprise to see Givenchy do the same, after all, it compliments the spring summer season.

As for now, we will just have to wait and see. Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 accessory and footwear update tomorrow!

I like refreshed designs from previous collections.
Only money …. I see that again in the spring of ever higher prices.

Some of the prices are extremely high – about 1000 usd for tshity this is crazy.

    • Back in 2012 when Givenchy started charging $825 for a Birds of Paradise t-shirt, everyone thought they were out of their minds. But if you take a real good look at today's luxury designer market, a t-shirt around this price range is not uncommon.

Brands like Dolce Gabbana, Versace, and even Katie Eary who commonly practice print making has continue to push for premium pricing like Givenchy. So in order for the designer to stay ahead of the competition and by making their clothes exclusive, the only way is to continue to inflate prices, therefore it is much more targeted for wealthy consumers.

Overall within these few years, designer t-shirts has drastically changed in price point. What was a $265 Givenchy Rottweiler in 2011 is nothing now compared to a $300 t-shirt offered from some random designer. And yes, they do earn a lot of money from such high mark-ups. The production cost is probably 10% or less of the full retail price.

Relying heavily on previous collections, but some pieces are simply lovely.
Now Bergdof went live with the pre-orders too, but prefer to do my purchases from EU stores.
The Paisley bomber jacket is really lovely, the stars are back specially the red (will look lovely with my red arenas lol).
Bergdof added the accessories, the bags are lovely too.
I noticed at Barneys that the wide leg short is back but with a slimmer silhouette (not sure if narrower), maybe you can judge better Maurice cause you have a similar one.
The Paisley reminds me of the green fighter collection, isn't it similar?
But where is the runway collection?
    Nothing there.
    No official pre-collections anymore?
    Nothing on Givenchy's website.
Will have a closer look and come back later.
    Thanks for the post Maurice.

    • Yes, some of the accessories and footwear collection in Bergdorf Goodman are tastefully made. They even introduced the Spring Summer 2014 print series sandals.

Can you show me which wide leg shorts you are talking about? Maybe I can give you a rough idea how it fits.

The paisley prints are extracted from Givenchy Pre-Spring 2013 as mentioned on the above write up, they just removed the planes and added the womenswear FW14 butterflies.

I have a feeling Riccardo Tisci did not design this collection, maybe it was just left to his team to decide. Theres no official press release for this collection, im also wondering why…

So far its a little hard to guess which print is driving the whole collection. My wild guess are the ones with butterflies…

hi Maurice thanks for the updates…
There stop creation in givenchy? i mean how ricardo can repop always the same items?
    it's a pure joke…
No need to go to the shop for buying a specifique items when next season it reapears…
    givenchy is dying…

    • I have a feeling Riccardo Tisci did not design this collection, it was more of an automated designer's response to cultivate more sales based on existing designs offered in the past – this collection is clearly designed by his team. It's not well though through.

Yes, I feel the same as you too… :( looks like Saint Laurent is the future.

I think that their only task is to build a high-value brand Givenchy.
Every year, everything costs more. Build the highest brand value – and we will help clients to them.
As we continue to buy as much Givenchy is for 1-2 years we will have a tshirt for 2000-3000 usd :)
They build the highest value Givenchy brand – to sell any of the items (with the logo of Givenchy) for the highest possible price – we are the victims :)

I wonder if these price increases which are every year once they stop – if we buy a lot of Givenchy it will not stop. Soon we will buy tshirt + logo/graphics Givenchy for 2000-3000 usd :(

    masterpiece :)

    • I'm not surprised, as consumers become wealthier by the day, and demand for luxury increases through the years, designers will continue to push for higher prices. Same goes with women designer brands like Chanel and Dior, prices has changed drastically throughout each season.

My advise is, only buy what truly attracts you, therefore you won't be blinded by the label.

The paisey designs are so not Tisci.. :( Why wasn't he in charge of designing the collection and who were the "team of designers" or whoever..?

Not really sure which print is the main one for this collection, it seems pretty nice but compared to others do you think it has fallen off? I personally think so..

But I think the piece I will be getting are the Star Stripped Sweater, Star Contrast Shirt, Butterfly Poplin Shirt, Rottweiler Shirt.

    Anyway, is this site legit?

    • Don't spend too much on Pre-Spring 2015, the collection is quite weak. SS15 is much promising.

Yes Bergdorf Goodman is a trusted retailer, you can shop here

    • It is made of 100% Cotton, lightweight for Pre-Spring. You need to take your true to size, it will fit a bit loose at the back

    Maurice i mean this short
    the wide leg.
Similar to the one you wear or?

The links in your wish list are not working.
Plus please help us on the must have from Givenchy.
Lindelpalais joined the pre-orders too (i like the Keffieh Printed Nylon Backpack), looks nice and the price is as the normal bags.
I bought the Rottweiler with star applique and i already have this seasons one (the new one increased by 210 euros lol) maybe for the stars price. Isn't it the same that Kanye was wearing later this year.
I need your help in the runway pieces, mostly looking to get a runway piece with the flower theme (but in black color).
To add, the fits are a bit weird they say cuban but the pieces look oversized on the model, not sure about this and worried to pre order and get a wrong size.
I like the trainer high top in your wish list but prefer to get a low version of it so it will be easier to wear and looks better on shorts in hot weather.

    • Hi there, thank you so much for letting me know that my links weren't working. I was surprised…

Congratulations on getting the Rottweiler Star Application T-Shirt, a friend of mine is searching high and low for smaller sizes which all have been sold out at the moment. And yes, any star application will add a few hundred euros because of its attractive feature and it is also not commonly found. It is a great piece! Kudos.

You can try this printed version, which is also currently in my wishlist. But i'm really hoping to see how the runway beaded collection will look like in reality. I'm expecting it will be priced around $2,200 for a t-shirt.

      It's actually oversize, not cuban-fit.

One more question, whenever i visit the CL website, they transfer me to the HK website.
Do you think we can order from the honk kong website to Australia.
It is funny that you can not find CL in Melbourne and not even an online store offering men shoes.
    Any suggestions?

    • It is not possible to buy online from HK website to be shipped to elsewhere in the world. This is because Christian Louboutin has already set it's global pricing caterer to each region, this includes local duty paid tax. That is why prices varies among the world depending on local custom duty chargers.

I've once tried to buy a Christian Louboutin shoes from their UK website with my Australia credit card. The transaction did went through… but they rejected later, stating that the credit card was not issued in the UK.

Unfortunately there are no official Christian Louboutin website for Australia. This could be because Australia has a relatively small market, and they already have some stores in David Jones which they may not want to promote online competition. You can try to shop in David Jones menswear department, I saw a couple of pieces available in Chadstone.

However, if you're seriously keen in buying from their official website, you can send them an email about your concerns. They will arrange a sales personal to assist your enquires and will let you buy online and ship to Australia.

Please take note that you may get taxed if you do so! Do inquire whether duty is paid for.

    Check Antonioli Pre-Spring 2015, and SS15

    • Yup, the collection is gorgeous. Love SS15.. mainly shirts.

  • Anonymous

Prices are so cheap on antonioli compared to other sites.. they have the same stuff that are much cheaper, how? :S

Anyway am I seeing wrong things because wasn't this shirt from Pre Fall 14? And it's the same design, did they put a wrong picture or something? (Prices are much cheaper too..)

    • They are cheap, but they do not include delivered duty paid (DDP), just make sure you check their shipping policy before any surprises come knocking at your door. But if your country includes DDP from Antonioli, than good for you!

Yes, this Givenchy Star & Striped Embroidered Shirt has been repeatedly made available each pre-collection since Pre-Fall 2013. I already gotten mine earlier this Pre-Fall 2014, but haven't had the time to talk about it yet.

    • Anonymous

Alright, thanks for the thumbs up on the duty.

Wow, I did not know that, which means this is the FOURTH pre-collection they are producing this same shirt again? (Or were those not sold out ones?)

Do you recommend to pre-order it now on Antionoli? Or is it safe to wait for it to arrive in stores before I get one there.

    • Oh these are like super duper popular. They will always sell out before mid of the season, never gets to hit on sales. So my bet is, if you see your size, just go ahead and buy it.

    • Anonymous

How about shipping into Singapore for Antionoli? Not sure what they say at the site, didn't find the DDP for my country.. Or any information regarding this online..

What do you think? How much tax do I have to pay or do I need not?

    • Anonymous

Prices are so different that it's weird even with tax. Price if shipped to SG is Euros 217 price to ship to UK is Pounds 228. Even if I add 20% tax to the EURO price, it still is much lower than GBP.

Anyway, site there says arrival by Feb 15, I should expect it to come anytime before that date?

    • You will have to contact a local custom officer to find out on the rates, and for more enquiries please drop Antonioli and email.

  • Anonymous

Hi, what size do you recommend on Givenchy shirts for someone who wears Cuban S? 38 or 39? On Antonioli their Neck size guide for S is 39 but on Mr Porter it is 38 for S.

    • You need a size 38

  • Anonymous

Hi Did you have experience shopping from Barneys Newyork?
I`ve ordered a Varsity Star Appliqué T-Shirt Size M ( By the look of the photo they are 100% Columbian Fit, even the model was wearing size M) But after I got the order confirmation email It says Cuban fit. So I had to cancel my order.

    Now It`s all sold out~ T.T

    • Is this the Givenchy Rottweiler with Star Application T-Shirt?

    • Anonymous

Hi No it's the plain T with 74 on sleeves.

    • Anonymous

No it's the one with 74 on the sleeves.
I even called the customer service and one lady told me it's Columbian fit and another lady says it's Cuban…

      don't know what to do..

    • The one I have up on my post is columbian for sure, but they also make a cuban fit as seen at Farfetch.

      Do you get free returns?

  • Anonymous

Hi, when does Givenchy Pre Spring 15 and Spring Summer 15 arrive in stores? Different timings for both collection?

    • There are new stocks from Givenchy Pre-Spring 2015 coming in this week, but SS15 will only be coming in around early April 2015.

  • Anonymous

I don't see some collections in stores sometimes, I don't think they release everything into stores, some we can get at other sites? I'm looking to buy some stuff but I really want to wait for it to get into stores to try first rather than ordering but from what I see some don't release into stores.

    • They do, all retailers and stockist are required to buy a minimum order since after FW13. They are required to buy the whole range, not just t-shirt, but also suits, blazers, shoes, accessories, denim and etc. However retailers are allowed to select certain designs that they believe will sell well, while they would also require to stock other categories even though it wouldnt be sellable.

In most cases, if you're eyeing on the popular prints, they are likely sold out by the time they even reach the racks. This is because the retailer or its retail staff would usually reserve the popular pieces for their VIP customers, therefore you wouldnt even get a slight glimpse of the stock. Its common practice..

If you see anything online which has your size, and you like it a lot, by all means do not wait and just buy it.

Alright man, thanks for the detailed reply Maurice!
